Lovely Complex!!! I just finished this anime and it was really good. It's supper funny and full of cheesy romance and high school. The anime tells the story of a really supper above-average tall girl and a supper duper short boy who fall for each other after being known as the comedy duo for their whole first year. It is a bit sexist in that all the girls are devoutly loyal to their boyfriends and pretty much play the "obedient housewife" and shape their futures purely on their boyfriends future careers, but other than that, it's a really great anime and I recommend it to all.
I read the manga series of this and loved it, too. The characters were really funny because they teased and fought with each other the whole time. The Nashville Public Library has a live-action movie version of this, too, and it's really cute.
I'd originally posted this on the old class webpage, but here is my review of D. Gray-man:
D. Gray-Man by Katsura Hoshino is my all-time favorite manga. Now, as I'm actually suppose to review it and not ramble on about how amazing it is and how everyone should read it, I should go ahead and get on with the actual review part.
D. Gray-Man is a manga about an Exorcist named Allen Walker (who is quite adorable, might I say) who, along with the other exorcists, is supposed to fight what they call "Akuma" or demons. Akuma are people who had a loved one die and then made a deal with the Millennium Earl (he is somewhat like the devil) to bring said loved one back to life. This deal has a cost, though. The loved one comes back, but takes the body of the one who made the deal. Allen Walker made this same deal, and would have become an Akuma. This odd happenstance makes for amusing moments, especially when Allen meets Kanda -- my FAVORITE CHARACTER -- who is a hard-ass samurai, to say the least. Throughout D. Gray-Man, Allen has to deal with being misunderstood and with being part-Akuma, but it never gets him down!
This amazing manga not only has an enthralling plot and well-rounded characters, but it also has amazingly intense fight scenes and amazing artistic skill.
I would, however, like to warn people who are new to Manga or are younger not to read this (Sadly). I deeply regret that last sentence, but it is necessary. D. Gray-Man can be quite intimidating for a new reader and is very gory -- although not as bad as... let's say Vagabond.
If anyone reads this Manga and wants to comment, I'll be happy to start a discussion!
Moribito I just started this one yesterday. It's about a bodyguard woman who is hired to protect and cursed prince. So far, it's been really really good, as in I am only a few episodes in and I already can't stop watching. Has anyone watched it yet?
Hey I’m back! So after getting pretty far into InuYasha, I discovered another shounen anime/manga that has equally captured my attention. This anime’s name: Fairy Tail. Fairy Tail takes place in the imaginary kingdom of Fiore, a world where wizards and regular citizens go hand and hand and magic is just as common as anything else. The story centers around two main characters, a Celestial wizard named Lucy and the Fire Dragon Slayer, Natsu. At the end of the first episode, after a series of complications, Natsu invites Lucy to join Fairy Tail, the wizard guild Natsu is currently a member of. There, she meets many other quirky characters such as the ice wizard, Gray, and the armor clad wizard, Erza. The four form a team, as well as Natsu’s talking, flying sidekick, Happy (who also happens to be a cat), and go off on jobs together to earn money and help pay for Lucy’s rent. The five go on many adventures throughout the story, and each character’s backstory is slowly revealed throughout the arcs. It’s fun, fast-paced, action-packed, and full of loveable characters that make the series so special. All of the characters have their own imperfections, and every member of the guild has gone through some hardship in their lives that has made them stronger as an individual. The sense of community and camaraderie in the guild are one of the main reasons I love it, as well as the ever changing story arcs that keep the series fresh and new after every few episodes. I will admit that it did take me a few episodes to get into the series, but once I did, I can easily argue that this is one of the best stories I’ve ever seen. I don’t care who you are, I strongly recommend Fairy Tail to anyone who is reading this blog post.
